I've worked with faces & figures in costume for years, at times culminating in performance & at times as pure sculpture. I alternate between searching for the sublime & expressing anguish & sorrow through distortion & decay. Since verbal language seems so inadequate to me, the challenge is to find ways to translate my ideas into an abstracted form in hopes of condensing them into visual poetry. That's the carrot. It's hard to hit the mark so one keeps pushing.

Tanya Karlova said… Hello Julie, thank you so much for add me as a friend and for your very deep comment to my work. You absolutely right about contrast between the profile picture and my work..))) it`s cross me too when i download that one.. but i dont have to be obvious in my life about who i am, so do in my art... As i say ART is a MIRROR ... look carefully) i made by very different culture , then people from US, but i love America sooo much , that i am easyer became american person , but still deep russian soul or something, its not like i am depressed how several people would say about my work by looking at it, its about different side INSIDE of us which normally hide by life routine and proper mask, about things that we scared of but never speak loud. I like your very own view about " Art class in mental Institution" in my world she is an artist, who paint passionately her room, trying to make her world (room) more colorfull, or just find another clue to be more brighter INSIDE( guess like i am on some pics))) . Painting " Artist" - hiden dream .... but i cant tell more on that one))) .. and Belong To very very close work to me , thank you to pay attention to that one, you right she is free space INSIDE and she safe and its her choice of certain circle but the colors above telling how she feel INSIDE by being so weak without this Circle ... well i really enjoy read your comment i am going to look at your work) ttys Julie
