Bio
Background/Education:Michael Hillerman is from California and worked in the Music Business most of his career while practicing a variety of art forms including photography, drawing, painting and glass works. He studied art and photography at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, UCLA, Los Angeles City College and studied under both William Milar and Richard Duvall, learning classical black and white photography. Michael had shows In several spaces provided by the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles. He has been an active member of the C.G. Jung Society of Sarasota where he utilized his dream based art in the Societies dream analysis group. Michael currently lives in Asheville, NC where he is creating a concept series of art titled “Interpretations of Man in Nature”. Most of this series is based on a combination of hikes in the Asheville area, spiritual practices and his nightly dreams.
Mediums Used:Archival Printing of mixed mediums
Inspiration:Michael’s artistic style has been greatly influenced by the French Symbolist Odilon Redon, Norwegian Symbolist/Expressionist Edvard Munch and Belgian Surrealist René Magritte. He also likes to incorporate his experiences/knowledge of Siddha Yoga principles, C.G. Jung archetypes and quantum physics theory in each endeavor.
Artist Statement:For me, art is a way to express myself with the many symbols provided by nature and my dreams. Most all of my pieces are taken from a personal dreamscape or vision while encountering Mother Nature. I find the spirit of man to be accepted and enhanced by intimate and prolonged experiences with nature. My goal in creating a piece of art is to make the viewer and myself more whole and connected with all of nature.
