Mary Roche left a comment for Resident Curator
Resident Curator commented on Mary Roche's photoMy current body of artwork deals with space. I am very interested in creating objects that the viewer can experience in a way that makes them feel as if they can be apart of it. I have been using two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums in order to achieve this goal.
My ink drawings are done using overlapping cross contour lines to create imaginative forms. The forms overlap in an empty space creating a mysterious place. I play with different values and size to help create depth in the drawings. I feel that looking at these drawings is like looking through a window into another universe.
My paper cuts are symmetrical sculptures that hang on the wall emerging from a frame like a drawing or painting. The intricate cuts that I create transform the paper surface to become imaginative creatures. These creatures can be interpreted and experienced differently by every viewer. The paper is mounted inside the frame to create a form. Throughout the coarse of the day the sculptures create shadows on the frame and wall that change with the daylight.
