Barbara A. Kirby's Gallery

Art has been a part of my life since a child and has helped me to look at things differently, closer. From sketching, to pen, to Pointillism, a process of putting several dots together, I happened upon this form quite by accident. I had spent most of my time drawing people, places and things with very tight accuracy but had become uninterested in pursuing these unimaginative renderings. One day I started to doodle and it now has became the porthole to where I go. Art to me is everything we experience; it’s what we connect with when we look at someone’s work. It starts us on a journey then takes us farther. So now, let me take you with me... one dot at a time. www.bakirby.com

Pointillism

I’m new here and would like to know if there is anyone who works in pen and ink medium and does pointillism. Not really sure if this is the place to post this.

Dear Barbara,
How wonderful to hear from you. I have just moved down to my little island full time 8 days ago so am adjusting to living in my RV named Rosy for now. So have not gotten back to the blog quite yet. Internet should be in this weekend! Thank you SO very much for your supportive kind comments! I can't wait now to go see your work. Where do you live?
Cheers! Charlotte

Barbara, your pieces are truly amazing especially when one realizes that you have made them one point at a time - breathtaking!

Your pen & ink work shows great depth of our human experience. You "speak" with clear visual skills. Are you showing in galleries, doing prints?

Hi Allen,
I'm not at all familiar with what you call a 'plate' that you scratch on. The closest thing I came to that would be carving in vinyl and then rolling ink over the surface to make a print. Not the same as the cuttings become the voids. I wish I could see your process. It also seems that any mistake is permanent.

Hi Barbara,
drypoint is the printmaking technique where you scratch directly on the plate and the mark you make is the mark that takes the ink.
