Thought Formation can be viewed as an exuberant piece in its painterly revelry despite some darker passages. The loose brushwork formally responds to the linear marks, which seem to be broken down interior structures. I enjoy those intervals between thin sgraffito line and swath of opaque color. The large dark mass moving into the picture plane from the upper right is suspended and interrupted by the lighter hues, further creating formal tension. I also read the rectilinear structures as windows into other spaces, creating a dynamic push and pull within the layers of amorphous color.
