Curator’s Comment:

The clean lines of The Observer brought my attention to the piece, while the intersecting lines and flat color planes hold my attention. The image seems especially suited to silk screen printing, as the graphic sensibility is heightened by the flat color blocking.  I particularly like the cast shadow of the unseen figure- bringing the viewer into the picture plane ultimately devoid of solid ground.  The angle of the building structure provides a strong diagonal movement in the piece, while the vibrant yellow sun echoes the grid in the building. I find the title of the artwork to be teasingly ironic; for what the observer sees may just likely be us, since the cast shadow is behind them.
