Curator’s Comment:

These are such spirited, pulsating works that they’re a lot to take in at once.  The gestural line quality in Beyond the Industrial Chaos is hypnotizing, as some curvilinear pieces suggest letter forms or wheels.  There’s also an overall quality reminiscent of automatic drawing.  I like the very thin black lines on the larger white painterly ground in this piece, as they anchor the more intense primary colors and shapes. The red squiggled shapes also move to form a general triadic arrangement, adding loose organizational structure to frenzied energy.  While some lines move off the field of the picture plane and are cropped along the sides, the painting seems to float within the edges of the paper support.  I also really enjoy Symphony of Seasons, which shares a more intermittent interval of creamy white space, contributing to the fluid movement of the nonobjective composition.
