Curator’s Comments:

I’m impressed by the facility you have working with highly abstracted organic forms such as tree bark and stone walls, as well as the dexterity to move between formal concerns and clearly narrative pictures.  The Greedy offers the viewer fragments of ancient civilizations in the context of a universal human drive.  The Roman heads intermingle with cut and pasted portraits from different eras and myths, creating a contemporary but disparate postmodern collage.  I read both the open mouthed head screaming text and the more representational figure on the far right in the composition as patricidal elements, or vestiges of a defeated power structure.  (On closer inspection I recognize the hand scrawled words as the ominous opening of Dante’s Inferno.)  But there is also humor present in the absurdity of the caricatures, just as the piece carries an underlying current of serious social commentary.   I like that the twin figures in the center space materialize to either construct or dismantle a structure in the chaotic landscape.   In this theatrical stage the warning is both endearing and frightening.
