Thank you Dennis!
I really enjoyed hearing what you saw in this painting. It is part of a small series of animal zodiac works- this one is one of the more abstract in the group. I have been fascinated with rabbits for some time, as they can represent a myriad of ideas. I'm also struck by signs around the rural community where I live advertising rabbits "for pets or meat."
This particular painting, all though is small, viewing it on my monitor I feel it should be 9 ft. x 12 ft. I am really drawn into the meditating rabbit which seems to have human characteristics. Especially the anthropic qualities of the rabbits physiology having shoulders and folded arms, which almost seem to be in bondage with a broad orange band. The rabbits eyes also have a mortal quality of a deep dreamlike reflection emulated by the background which seems to transcend both warmth and turbulent periods. What is interesting is the rabbits off center position, giving way to an aqua presence, which again has a biamorphorfic imposing image.
The composition has a combination of movement utilizing various directions with a very applicable use of line, colour and brush strokes. Perhaps this could be a person in bed with a pillow behind them and a covered quilt next to another person or dare I say a teddy bear. This is a well done creation of a complex transition of the cognition or thought process to another state. Again, the rabbit suggests an Alice in Wonderland conceptual harmony between the artist and impression.
