Curator’s Comments:

Mystical Empress (Large cc)  is a suggestive and intriguing image, but I’m uncertain if I’m viewing the photographic documentation of a sculptural object or a fully digital two-dimensional piece?  The picture appears to contain an embellished mannequin; a blank slate for a contemporary tribal motif.   The mask-face is curiously placed in the lower abdomen, so that the curvilinear marks implying low lying ears also suggest ovaries on the feminine torso.  While the breast forms don’t echo the facial features below, there is a suggestion of bilateral symmetry in the design found in natural bodies such as insects and fish.  The striated lines radiating from the false “head”, reach upward, but of course stop at the expected area for the anatomical head and limbs on the form.  The cascading blue lines in neon intensity originating from the points of the abbreviated shoulders read as emissions of light or energy.  There is a lot to read into in terms of intent in this piece.  I do hope you add additional works to the site.
