This painterly abstraction reads as landscape because of the elongated horizontal orientation and rough bands of broken color. I enjoy the atmospheric qualities created by the placement of warmer yellow hues in the foreground and lower chroma blues further up the picture plane. The turbulent mood of the space is created by active brushstrokes and dark values- it is slightly unsettling in its harnessing of raw energy. Alternatively, natural forces of wind and rain could also be conjured.
