Curator’s Comments:

I interpret a raw, expressive altercation in this work that approaches a violent act without the benefit (or distraction) of overt figural representation.  The gestural exchange between the two organic forms is direct and visually aggressive; the splatter suggesting destruction upon impact. That there are bits of red matter surrounding the “eye” within the top form is somewhat disturbing, but I can’t say the piece isn’t appealing. I like the extreme textural variation in the painting, and the open expanse of space in which the blue shapes are suspended and animated.   Some of the other recent calligraphic/ freely associated drawings are composed with similar marks and line qualities, but appear to be more inwardly directed, as the lines fold back into themselves.  It’s also very interesting to see the more representational figurative works on the second page of your portfolio on the site, which offer an overall smooth quality, and more surrealistic dream-like sequences or juxtaposition.
